Stefan-Ludwig Hoffmann is Assistant Professor for Modern History at Ruhr-University Bochum, and recipient of the Association of German Historians' 2002 Hedwig Hintze Prize for best first book. Tom Lampert is author of Ein einziges Leben (Hanser Verlag 2001); his English translation, One Life, was published by Harcourt in 2004.
