About Mario Tauchi
Mario Tauchi is a Japanese artist based in Tokyo. He grew up observing the forms of nature in a rural area of Saitama, surrounded by plants, trees, and living creatures. He was also fascinated by religious art, tribal art, street art, and psychedelic art while he spent his childhood and youth in Paris, Melbourne and Philadelphia. All of those shaped the foundation of his style and thoughts. In addition to creating art, he works in publishing as a translator and a writer. He started creating art in 2001, when he was 28 years old. Mario also works as a performance artist, and has performed in London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, and in various parts of Japan. He often collaborates with musicians, poets and other performance artists. Recently, he has exhibited at galleries in Japan and abroad, including his solo exhibition "MARIO" at CADAN Yurakucho (2022), and in the past, he was in charge of the mural project "Wishing for the realization of Keith's wish for peace" at the Keith Haring exhibition "LOVE POP! ~ Art is for everyone" (2012) at Itami City Museum of Art, and has performed live painting and drawing. Mural (exterior wall) of Thai restaurant "Morlam Liquor Store" in Maruyamacho, Shibuya Ward. While painting, he is mainly engaged in translation publishing as an agent, editor and translator. As a translator, he has worked on Lester Bangs - The Legendary Rock Critic, His Words and Life (Jim DeRogatis, published by TONKACHI) and Why Work? (Barry Schwartz, published by Asahi Publishing [TED Books]), and as a writer, Prison Food (published by K&B Publishers).
