Sustainability is very important to us here at Kennys, and we aim to minimise waste, be as energy efficient as possible and maintain responsible and sustainable work practices. Here are some of the things we do:
- We support and practice the reuse of books by buying and selling secondhand books
- We always source from local and Irish suppliers where possible
- We support local community initiatives
- ‘Green delivery’ - means that we ship all book orders in bulk with An Post who distribute them in electric vehicles and as a company, have huge commitments to sustainability
- We ship and supply recycled boxes free of charge to suppliers of libraries
- We practice shipment combining and merging to minimise wasteful multiple journeys
- We courier with UPS’s carbon neutral option and offset the climate impact of every Gallery delivery
- We package everything we ship in recyclable and eco-friendly packaging that has been made from recycled materials
- Our Kennys tote bags are sourced from Bags of Ethics
- In store we use paper bags only, and promote the re-use of bags
- We replaced lighting in the shop from fluorescent to LED lights. The LED are long-life and have a lower energy consumption
- We split our waste and recycle all cardboard. All packaging that we receive in deliveries is reused for our outgoing deliveries
- Several of our staff cycle to work and we facilitate the Cycle to Work Scheme
- The bookmarks that we ship with orders are now fully recycable and eco-friendly
- Where possible all contact is done virtually, as opposed to snail mail. This avoids the use of printing, paper and postage
- We have a policy of not printing, unless it cannot be avoided for all office work
We are continuously working on and looking for new ways to improve our practices and build towards a more sustainable future.
