Reviews for Evil Games: The gripping heart-stopping thriller
'I'm always astounded by an author's ability to hold a reader in the palm of their hand. And without doubt, Angela Marsons has, from the very start of the novel, the unique ability to take a tight hold of the reader's hand, almost turning the pages with them, guiding, steering and ... Read moremanipulating the action, so that the whole reading experience is a bit like hurtling along at top speed along a complicated tunnel network.'
Jaffa Reads Too
'Marsons is a top-class crime writer and she knows exactly how to keep the reader turning the pages.'
The Bookbag
'Evil Games is fast-paced writing and kept me intrigued from beginning to end. I can't wait for the third instalment!'
Off the Shelf Books
'Angela Marsons absolutely marks her place amongst the greats of the police procedural/mystery/thriller genre with this one...'
The Quiet Knitterer
'Dark, tense and compulsive, you'll tear through it as you plumb the depths of humanity with Kim and her team. I was totally engrossed from start to finish and there can be no higher recommendation really. You should definitely go out and buy it if you are a crime aficionado - and I bet you'll want to devour the rest too...'
On the Shelf Book Reviews
'What a writer to voyage into the mind of such a frightening and complex adversary and write her so honestly. This isn't just a simple antagonist in some book, this is a fabulous creation and a fascinating exploration into the mind of a sociopath. Dark. Chilling. Shocking.'
Ronnie Turner Ad Astra
'I love the way Angela Marsons develops character, the brilliantly accurate depiction of setting and backstory, and how skillfully she uses it all to manipulate the reader's emotions. You are drawn in, poised on the edge of your seat as the lines which separate aggressor and victim become more and more blurred. An stunning, twisted and deliciously sociopathic 5 stars from me.'
Jenna Medlicott
'This book is such a page turner, I felt that I had full access to the warped mind of this sociopath but was powerless to stop her.....so I just had to keep reading! A fantastic combination of psychology and a murder investigation!'
Have Books will Read
'it took me just a few chapters to realise that Evil Games had me hook, line and sinker. I daren't put it down. Angela writes some truly dark and clever crime fiction..a pure on-the-edge-of-your-seat reading experience...'
Book Drunk
'Stone is up there amongst the top echelon of fictional damaged detectives. The challenge of creating a villain who is a worthy adversary for this clever and intelligent detective has been achieved successfully and is no archetypal stock villain. This is police procedural fiction at its best, told with the confidence that comes with knowledge and experience. Evil Games is one of those rare crime novels that make you want to consume them in one sitting.'
Crime Review
Oh man. Oh man, oh man, oh man. This is why I've put off reading Evil Games for so long - because Angela Marsons makes you read her books in one sitting, with some kind of wizardry I've rarely encountered. I genuinely started this book at 6pm and finished it at 9.30pm. THE SAME NIGHT. I barely put the book down. Honestly, I just got so sucked into the story, and being back in Kim Stone's life that I had to finish it. Evil Games is book two of the D.I. Kim Stone series and is just as good as book one. If not better. Angela Marsons is such a fine writer. I am kicking myself for not reading this sooner because it was amazing. Kim Stone is such a feisty character, and I feel like we've barely scratched the surface of her so far, and that there's SO MUCH MORE to come. I honestly cannot praise these books enough. The kind of writing that keeps you reading for three and a half hours in a row! If that's not high praise, I don't know what is!
Girl vs Ebooks
5 stars Pure Evil on every page! I love the character of Kim Stone; she is, like the best protagonists, damaged, but she is very likeable with her uncompromising dedication and serious manner. She also has an acerbic wit and moments of, not exactly warmth, but something approaching a partially thawed chip. Meaty, twisty, scary and utterly compelling, this is a book to curl up with on those dark winter nights, and not put down until the final page. Then all you need to do is to keep an eye open for the next in the series.
Breakaway Reviewers
There is a lot to like about this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it...It is a fast paced, undemanding read, with plenty of plot complications and the ability to keep the reader off balance by throwing up unexpected developments. The best thing about the book though is Kim Stone herself. She is the archetypal crusading police officer, intent on justice at any cost, but with enough embellishments to make her stand out from the crowd. As of this moment, DI Kim Stone is my very favourite motorcycle riding police officer.
