Overall Score 10/10. - Adventures in Poor Taste The Auteur from Rick Spears, James Callahan, and Luigi Anderson is the type of comic the industries needs more of. Nathan states ” We must be bold, be brave, and be amazing” and that is exactly what TheAuteur is. The Auteur showcases a comic that can be funny, over the top, violent, but also incredible well made. The art is striking, the writing is slick and colors are psychedelic. 9/10. - Rhymes with Geek Auteur #1: Oni Press has been on a roll lately, putting out some of the best new titles of the past few months, including Bunker and Letter 44. Auteur appears to the next addition to this list. - 13th Dimension With hallucinations and delusions and grandeur, creatives Rick Spears, James Callahan and Luigi Anderson reveal themselves to be every bit as in control as Rex isn't with their unforgiving assault on Hollywood. There's something Rex's eye, gorily vaulting out of its socket on the issue's cover, is dying to tell you: The Auteur has vision. 8/10- Newsarama The Auteur offers the imagination that many titles do not have on offer. Unlike the mainstream titles that survive on name alone, this comic is trying to create its own name and it looks like Rick Spears has had his very own epiphany in the form of the Auteur #1. - Fortress of Solitude We endlessly praised “Shaolin Cowboy” earlier this year for its artistically studious and indulgent approach to staging a hyper violent fight sequence with great detail, humor, and vitality. “The Auteur” carries that same spirit with it, though much more is thrown at the wall. While “Shaolin Cowboy” was delivering basically one thing, in a variety of ways, “The Auteur” is grabbing stuff from every corner of its creators' unwieldily minds to entertain you. “The Auteur” is perfect for fans of entirely original, entirely uninhibited, independently minded comics that play by their own rules and nobody else's. Final Verdict: 9.5 - Buy - Multiversity Comics In Nathan “T-Rex” Rex, the star of the story, I definitely see a reflection of my own desire to create something mind-blowingly unique, as well as my own concerns about whether or not I'll ever actually be able to do so. In Zaul Pear, T-Rex's employer, I detect my own jaded ennui, while Zed, Zaul's son who is the one actually running the business, clearly represents my own temptations to throw in the towel on creative integrity and do something that'll make me lots of money. I think that the most valuable thing that this book has to offer the reader is the insight into our own fears and confidences that it provides. Even if the story never really goes anywhere, I think that this series will be worth following. 7.8/10- Culture Mass There's only a handful of comics I even bother to read these days. Out of them all, there were only two where I felt excited to find out what happens next.
