Hardcover. Keywords: Poetry, Drama & Criticism - History & Criticism - Poetry & Poets, Languages, Society, Politics & Philosophy, Social Sciences, History, Education". It is easy to forget the role public servants play in the Nation's everyday living and they are often taken for granted. This is certainly true of the country's librarians who offer an essential service to the country and more often than not work under extremely difficult restrictions. It is therefore refreshing to see a book of essays with the subtitle of "A Fetschrift for Dónall Ó Luanaigh" and acknowledging the contribution this hardworking and committed public servant made to Irish life and culture over 43 years and who retired recently as the Keeper and Books in the National Library of Ireland. It is all the more pleasing as Dónall hails from Galway and he does the city proud by being honoured in this way. The esteem in which he was and is held can be judged only by the caliber of contributor to this august volume which has essays and poems from such people as Seamus Heaney, Owen Dudley Edwards, Theo Dorgan, Brendan Kennelly, Brian Lalor, Adrian Hardiman and many others. The essays therein are varied in subject and fascinating to read and are a fitting tribute to a remarkable librarian. Dónall, long may you enjoy your deserved retirement.

Paperback. Focuses on the impact of Sean Lemass - who sought to modernize Irish society - on Irish politics and society between 1945 and 1973. Although Lemass had been active in Irish politics from 1916 and became Minister for Industry and Commerce in 1932 in the first de Valera government, the essays here suggest that his influence was greatest after 1945. Editor(s): Girvin, Brian; Murphy, Gary. Num Pages: 288 pages. BIC Classification: 1DBR; 3JJPG; 3JJPK; HBJD1; HBLW3. Category: (G) General (US: Trade); (P) Professional & Vocational; (UP) Postgraduate, Research & Scholarly; (UU) Undergraduate. Dimension: 232 x 158 x 21. Weight in Grams: 446.
