Arkansas is well known for its rich tradition of upland folk arts. Cuesta Benberry, who for over thirty years has researched and studied quilts, is internationally known for her scholarship on quilts. She has most recently authored Always There: The African-American Presence in American Quilts (1992, The Kentucky Quilt Project) and Patchwork Pieces of Long Ago: An Anthology of Quilt Fiction (1993, Collector Books).
