Jazz in Autumn is niet geschikt voor beginners en iets te ingewikkeld als introductie in jazz ritmes, maar voor gevorderde leerlingen en pianisten met meer affiniteit met jazzstijlen, kan deze collectie van arrangementen van Billie Holiday, Keith Jarrett, Stan Getz, James Melton en Frank Sinatra zowel aangenaam als leerzaam zijn. Als ervaren docent laat Iles zien hoe een melodie vanuit een improvisatie zicht ontvouwt, hoe zelfs een geringste variatie in ritme een nieuwe wending kan betekenen en hoe bij het verplaatsen van accenten zelfs een traditioneel volkslied als het Ierse Danny Boy als jazz standard klinkt.
