This wide range of habitats supports an interesting range of breeding and visiting birds, including some of the most sought-after species in world birding, such as Diademed Sandpiper-plover, Magellanic Woodpecker and Grey-breasted Seedsnipe. Chile also holds nine endemics found nowhere else in the world.
