Until her retirement, she served as director of the children's reading program where she supervised the training of university students as tutors of reading for public school children. Recognitions include recipient of Outstanding Community Service Award (2004) from CSU,S, and 1995 delegate representing the U.S. in Berlin, Germany, at the Deutsche Schreberjugend International Youth Conference.
