There is an emphasis on theoretical knowledge but also some good practical clinical information present to aid the student on clinical placement. The book is full of diagrams, tables and flow charts which simplify learning of these difficult specialities. I feel that the basic sciences at the start of the book is more appropriate for the earlier years of medical school where I feel it would be useful for PBL cases, however, the book was also useful during my 4th year clinical attachment on the renal wards, where this book was a great revision tool. The content concentrates on breadth rather than depth is therefore useful for revision..the diagrams are very clear and concise, often explaining the concepts better than the texts. Also the little 'pointer' boxes attracted me to useful information. I particular liked the flow charts for diagnosis. The different ways of testing knowledge in the self assessment section is very useful.
