Reviews for Primer for New Principals
The specific activities and information in this book are very helpful for the new principal. Common sense approaches and practical guidelines for handling situations facing new principals will help the new administrator avoid the pitfalls that many of us struggled through on our own.
Mark McCormick, middle school principal, Clinton-Massie Local School District (OH) I found Richard Kellough's book reaffirming. I have read many books on leadership, but his was more comprehensive. I found it helpful to the first year principal, especially the evaluative/reflective assessments at the end of the book.
Lew Kerns, co-principal, Wilson Classical High School, Long Beach (CA) [This book] is a straight-forward overview of the various elements of the principalship. Dr. Kellough is brief, yet insightful. It is refreshing to have a broad overview of what a first-year principal will likely encounter. Kellough's conversational approach will allow new principals to quickly read the book for a general understanding of things to consider in order to avoid first-year pitfalls and behaviors to consider for effective management and leadership in secondary or elementary schools.
Phillys Hill, principal of 1998-99 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence; National Distinguished Principal of Texas, 2006; and Texas Class, principal of 1998-99 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence; National Distinguished Principal of Texas, 2006; and Texas Classroom Teachers' Assoc.…
