Finders Keepers—A Rare Cache of Quilts from the 1900s is based on a collection of quilts found in an abandoned farmhouse in Davis County, Iowa. Searching through the house, the new owner, Susan Knapp, found stone crocks, pretty dishes, and other intriguing little odds and ends. But best of all, she found a box of early 1900s quilts in a closet. Famed quilter Edie McGinnis has worked with Susan to re-create the early quilts, using reproduction fabric to reflect the time period in which they were made. She has also included an updated version of each quilt, with clear, concise instructions that will appeal to today's modern quilters.

Reviews for Finders Keepers Quilts: A Rare Cache of Quilts from the 1900s - 15 Projects - Historic, Reproduction & Modern interpretations
There is something very special about historic quilts - a rare glimpse of the past, a period in time, a remarkable slice of history. These quilts were found in an old American farmhouse, many in pristine condition. They date from the early 1900s. The new owner worked with quilter Edie McGinnis to make modern interpretations. This book provides the story of these quilts and their interpretations. It gives the modern fabrics to use and the instructions to make quilts and wall hangings. There is a hand-embroidered linen table top too. The book is well illustrated throughout, so you could choose to follow the original design more closely if you wish.

In 2012 Eric and Susanne Knapp bought an old house in Bloomfield, Iowa with intention of tearing it down as it was in such a state of disrepair having been left vacant since the mid 70s. Before the demolition started Susan took a look around the house and goudn a discarded quilt which prompted her too look further. This book is based on nine of the quilts found in the tumbledown farm house and gives as much history as could be discovered about the quilts as well as patterns so you can reproduce them yourself. This book included eighteen patterns as quilt designer Edie McGinnis has worked with Susan to produce two patterns based on each of the originals. The first being the recreation of the original quilts using reproduction fabrics and the second a modern adaptation using contemporary fabric. If you are interested in early 1900s American quilts this is a fascinating look at some historical quilting that easily could have been lost.
