Dec 12 A great introduction to sewing and making hearts to hang as decorations around your home. It contains ten pages of instructions at the beginning of the book to get you started with things like basic techniques and materials and equipment. The projects vary from very basic heart sewing with no embellishments to printing photos onto fabric, so it's an excellent first sewing book for a beginner. One of the projects would make a great keepsake for someone you want to remember. It features a photo of your loved one printed out and sewn onto the heart which is very sweet and a lovely idea. The hearts are made from very pretty fabrics in the book and the photographs will inspire you as they are beautiful. There are twenty projects in the book in total and they include machine sewing and hand sewing. The templates are printed full size (without the need for a photocopier) at the back of the book, with a diagram showing the four main stitches used in the book, running stitch, chain stitch, backstitch and blanket stitch. The step-by-step instructions contain clear well-lit photos so you can see how to do the project as well as read, which is great for those who are more visual learners than text-based learners like me.

Aug 12 This is a rare gem in the world of craft books. It not only makes you want to have a go at emulating the lovely handmade hearts for your home, whether they are traditional, shabby chic, unusual or country style; it makes you ACTUALLY DO IT. So often I read sewing and craft books and expect the finished items to somehow appear just because I’ve read about them and gazed at the photos quite a lot. With Hanging Hearts I was inspired to put my (hardly outstanding) sewing skills to the test, because the projects were easy to follow as well as very versatile. You don't even need a sewing machine. There's a beautiful rustic wreath decorated in little fabric hearts, a delightful string of hearts, and numerous individual hearts made from various fabrics and felt and decorated with ric rac, ribbons, buttons and bows. The instructions made me realise where I had made errors when trying to make lavender-filled hearts last autumn, and the templates made it all a lot easier. I love sewing projects that I can adapt so that they fit my miserly attitude to fabric. These hanging hearts can be made in varying sizes and styles according to what you have in your sewing box, and are a satisfying way to use up scraps of material, odd lengths of ribbon and so on. I cunningly ordered several free swatches from fabric companies and used them when making a number of the items in this book, so that if I didn’t get to grips with the basic techniques, I hadn’t spent much money, only time. I needn’t have worried and, despite being far from an expert seemstress, now have hearts hanging from most door handles in our house. They brighten up rooms, would be great Christmas tree decorations, and can also make perfect gifts for friends and relatives, weddings, christenings and Valentine's day. Quick and cheap to make, once I started on a couple of hanging hearts I was smitten!

July 12 This book is ideal for beginners, it starts off with the basic techniques for sewing hearts, and adding the hangers and then has 20 projects involving hanging hearts. The projects use different materials and techniques which include appliqué, felt hearts, embroidery, patchwork, hearts with pockets etc so you can learn new techniques whilst working on a fairly simple project. The book is easy to follow with good photography, clear instructions and full size templates at the back of the book. There are also photos for many stages of the construction of the hearts too. These pretty hearts would make great gifts, or nice little decorative touches around the house.

Oct 12 This book is really clear to use with lovely pictures and great ideas. I have made similar hearts and attached them to the top of our headboard on our bed which we spritz with Molton Brown relaxing mist. You could stuff these with dried lavender along with wadding and place these in drawers to give a lovely scent.

July 12 Heartshapes are always a lovely subject to work with, somehow no matter what form they take they seem attractive, I always like table runners, wall hangings and quilts embellished with heart shapes, so I just had to take a closer look at this book. Although hearts come in very basic shapes, some long and some wide and fatter, it's always good to see how other people embellish them and if you're stuck for ideas of your own, this can provide inspiration, as well as instruction for newies as they're all made by basic machine or hand stitching, nothing complicated and plenty of step by step photographs too. There's a lovely string of hearts, also ideas for country, rustic, French style and felt embellished, lacy, all sorts of ideas, great as little gifts for friends to hang from door or drawer knobs, or in wardrobes or hooks on the wall, hall coat racks, anywhere you fancy really. These can brighten up rooms and hearts and for such a small outlay, and these can be portable projects too, great to make on holiday, travelling to work or during lunch breaks. Sweet inspiration, very nice.-"Elaine B. Reader", Amazon
