About Neil Gopee
Neil Gopee is Lecturer at Coventry University in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences teaching mainly research and evidence informed practice. For several years until very recently, Neil was Course Director for the mentorship courses at Coventry University, is currently external examiner for mentorship delivered at Manchester University, and is also reviewer for Studies in Higher Education, amongst other academic responsibilities. From the author: I first qualified as a nurse a few decades ago and worked in general surgical nursing for a year before moving on to complete the registered mental health nurse course. Through my nursing career, a combination of clinical experiences in primary care and general intensive care nursing was also supplemented by attendance at numerous professional development short and long courses, including various workshops on writing for publication, and also completing my doctorate in continuing professional education at University of Warwick. My first peer-reviewed article was published in 1991 based on my then nurse tutor role. The 1990s were when nurse education programmes became a part of university provision, which further opened up authoring opportunities, and I negotiated with Alison Poyner, Commissioning Editor at SAGE Publications, to write the Mentoring and Supervision in Healthcare book, the first edition of which was published in 2007. Along the way, I also worked with SAGE Publications to write Leadership and Management in Healthcare (now in its third edition) and Practice Teaching in Healthcare textbooks. I have also had chapters published in edited books and a range of peer-reviewed articles.

Reviews for Leadership and Management in Healthcare
This is a book that I tell my students is a `must read'; as it's a very easy read and really helps them to apply the theory on leadership and management to their roles in health & social care through a series of very useful action points.
Sue West This book contains a wealth of valuable materials, from management and leadership theories to the models of practice across different disciplines. It is highly readable and informative for learners as a textbook and a tool to support new and emerging manager in health and social practice.
Winnie Cheng This is an excellent and comprehensive text about leadership and management in contemporary healthcare. It is well structured with 'easy to read' chapter summaries and action points which enhance the opportunity for reflection and which will enable both pre and post registration learners to apply the theory to their own practice.
Liz Crighton Leadership and management is complex and dynamic. This book challenges individual reflection and encourages professional development as it systematically introduces the reader to all aspects of leadership and management specific to the health care environment. This book is full of information and relevant practical examples that you will fully appreciate after you have read it.
