About Kate Oates
Kate Oates is the designer for Tot Toppers & When I Grow Up. In particular, she enjoys designing hats and garments for babies and children, as these projects often reflect a whimsical spirit. Kate's When I Grow Up line is for those of us who are not tots, featuring a modern classic style. Kate also strives to add specifically to the growing body of knits for boys as she has two of her own! You can find her patterns at your local yarn store or online at http://www.tottoppers.com. She also does freelance work for a variety of publications. In her non-knitting life, Kate has recently completed a PhD in Political Science from the University of Florida. She lives with her family in Lexington, South Carolina, which includes her husband Ryan, her children Jesse and Charlie (two very handsome Tot Toppers models), and her beloved dogs Cooper and Lou.
Reviews for Knits for Boys: 27 Patterns for Little Men + Grow-with-Me Tips & Tricks
July 2015 If there's anyone who understands what makes little boys tick, it's Kate Oates. She's worked as a kidswear designer in her native US since 2009, but first and foremost she's a mum to four young men. Kate's designs are fun, bold and playful. Just the things a little boy would want. And her experience as a parent has informed her work too. Her clothes are hard-wearing and practical. Importantly she's included advice on how to get extra growth and room from the garments you make to eke as much life from them as possible. And while some of Kate's designs have a modern feel, like the sweater with the T-rex intarsia motif or the knitted t-shirt, others have a timeless vintage look.; These are perfect clothes for your young mans adventures.
