Family and home are one word—jia—in the Chinese language. Family can be separated and home may be relocated, but jia remains intact. Haiming Liu is an Asian American Studies Professor in the Ethnic and Women's Studies Department of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine.
