In the last decade tremendous progress has been made in the diagnosis and treatment of tumours of the mediastinum. The use of immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, electron microscopy, CT and MRI, and a better knowledge of tumour markers, has made for better diagnosis, often without the need for biopsy, in many cases.
