In 1996, Louise Arbour was appointed by the Security Council of the United Nations as Chief Prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. Madame Justice Louise Arbour was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada in 1999. She had previously held appointments to the Supreme Court of Ontario and the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and taught in the faculty of Osgoode Hall Law School.
