Ciaran Carson was born in 1948 in Belfast, where he worked as Literature and Traditional Arts Officer at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. His collections of poetry have been short-listed for both the Irish Book Award for Literature and the Whitbread Poetry Award and won the Irish Times Irish Literature Prize for Poetry. Ciaran Carson's book about Irish music, Last Night's Fun, was published in hardback in 1996, and The Star Factory, his personal history of Belfast, was published in November 1997. Fishing For Amber, combines Dutch art, the myths and legends of amber and the history of Esperanto in a magical narrative collection and was published in November 2000. He lives in Belfast.
