Mark McWatt is a Guyanese poet and critic who taught for some time at universities in Canade and the UK, and is now Professor of West Indian Literature in the Department of English at the University of the West Indies in Barbados. He has published many books and essays on aspects of Caribbean literature, with a particular interest in Guyanese writers. He is editor of The Journal of West Indian Literature and edited, with Hazel Simmonds, the anthology for Caribbean schools A World of Poetry. His own poetry is widely published and anthologized, and his collection The Language of Eldorado won the prestigious Guyana Prize for Poetry in 1994. Show Less
