Smith presents information about Cash's repertoire indexed by song title. Whereas in a "sessionography" one might have to wade through many pages covering entries for different session dates and overdub sessions to find if, when, and how a particular title was released, Another Song to Sing presents all pertinent information for a given title in an entry for that title. John L. Smith is a long-time scholar and friend of Johnny Cash. His previous publications include the Johnny Cash Discography (Greenwood, 1984), Johnny Cash Discography 1984-1993 (Greenwood, 1994), Johnny Cash Record Catalog (Greenwood, 1994), and Waylon Jennings Discography(Greenwood, 1995) which won the 1996 ARSC Best Research in the Field of Country Music Award.
