Putrescine and spermidine are ubiquitous in living organisms. Spermine, third of the three most commonly occurring natural polyamines, is probably present in all eukaryotes but is rare (or nonexistent) in prokaryotes. Polyamine residues are constituents of many compounds found in plants and insects.
