Description for The Collectors: A short story from the world of His Dark Materials and the Book of Dust Hardback. ***Previously published by Audible in audio book only and read by Bill Nighy, and later in ebook, this is the first time THE COLLECTORS will be made available in physical format. The ghostly tale offers an image of the girl who will become the dangerous Mrs Coulter, the villain of Pullman’s much-loved HIS DARK MATERIALS sequence. THE COLLECTORS is the perfect treat for Pullman fans, and a dark and captivating entry point for new readers of the worlds of HIS DARK MATERIALS and THE BOOK OF DUST. On a dark night in a college in Oxford, two men talk by the fire. Their conversation turns to two unusual pieces of art that one of them has recently added to his collection. But these pieces – a painting of a striking young woman and a bronze sculpture of a fearsome-looking monkey – are connected in mysterious and improbable ways, and these art collectors are about to be caught up in a story which has travelled time and worlds.

From the best-selling master storyteller, Sir Philip Pullman, dive once again into the world of His Dark Materials and The Book of Dust...

'D'you - er - have you seen her before?'
'Yes. I know who she is.'
'But, Grinstead, this painting is seventy years old - probably nearer eighty! You're not being serious - I mean . . . What do you mean?'

On a dark winter's night in 1970, Horley and Grinstead huddle for warmth in the Senior Common Room of a college in Oxford. Conversation turns to the two impressive works of art that Horley has recently added to his collection.

What the two men don't know is that these pieces are connected in mysterious and improbable ways; and they are about to be caught in the cross-fire of a story which has travelled time and worlds.
