Hardback. 3 Vols complete. A new ed.; to which is added a geographical indexRebound in modern pink boards. First printed at the expense of the authors in an edition of ten copies (Lowndes says twelve), in 1741. They were written by a society of friends at Cambridge University, including Charles Yorke, Dr Birch, Catherine Talbot and John Greeen among others. No further edition appeared until 1781 when a single volume quatro appeared in a limitation of one hundred copies, followed eleven years later by a Dublin piracy and an "authorised edition" in 1798. The present printing was the next. The work enjoyed enormous vogue around the turn of the century achieving two separate translations into French.
